Last Saturday evening proved to be a bellweather night for Hickory Lane and our stallion, McARDLE, as two of his 3 year old offspring shined on the big stage at Pocono Downs. No pacer was more impressive this evening than McWICKED who absolutely dominated his competition in cruising to a 1:47.3f WORLD RECORD for 3 year old pacing colts on a 5/8 mile track in the final of the $500,000.00 Hempt Memorial. It was simply a devastating performance, one that stamps McWICKED as one of the premier 3 year old pacers in the world and sets him up as one of the early favorites for the Little Brown Jug in September. Congratulations to his breeder, Andray Farm, one of owners of McCARDLE, and his owner, SSG Stables, N.Y., his trainer, Casie Coleman and his driver, David Miller.
Not to be overlooked was the stellar performance by TYRA, who, after winning the Lismore earlier this month at Yonkers, came off cover down the stretch at Pocono and flew by her rivals like she was shot out of a cannon to win by 3 lengths in a personal best of 1:50.1f in the $50,000.00 Lynch Consolation. TYRA has established herself as one of the premier pacing fillies in not only Pennsylvania, but in the country as well. She is tough, gritty and never gives up. Tim Tetrick drove her to victory for owners CC Racing LLC, Ill. and trainer Jim King, Jr. Congratulations to all.
Finally, Leonard Buckner and Charlie Norris' fine 3 year old trotter DATSYUK put in an outstanding performance in finishing third to Father Patrick and Nuncio in the $500,000.00 Earl Beale Final trotting his mile in an incredible 1:51.1, DATSYUK'S 1:51.1 mile was 1.1 seconds faster than Spyder Blue Chip's 1:52.2 world record mile for 3 year old geldings trotted last year at Pocono. This is all the more incredible when you note that DATSYUK has only had 6 lifetime starts in his career, never raced at 2, has lowered his time in all 6 starts by one second every start and has gone toe to toe with the finest 3 year old trotters on the planet. Right now he is rated 4th in the country behind Jimmy Takter's big three. Congratulations to Leonard and Charlie and DATSYUK. There is still the Hambo on the horizon-you never know!
